Follow the specific equipment requirements
Residential elevators are not all built the same. Installation, clearances, doors, gates, controls, emergency features, weight limits, and service procedures should follow the requirements for the selected system.
Treat doors and landings as safety-critical
Landing doors and cab or platform entrances should never be altered, blocked, or used in a way that defeats their intended safety functions. Keep travel areas clear and teach household members not to force doors or interfere with moving equipment.
Plan for children and visitors
Explain how the elevator is used, supervise children as appropriate, and keep access controlled according to the equipment's design. Visitors should not have to guess how doors, controls, or emergency functions operate.
Know what to do when something is wrong
Owners should know the normal shutdown and service process, how emergency communication works on their system, and who to contact for qualified service. Do not keep operating equipment that behaves abnormally.
